This part of WAs coast is recognized internationally as one of the great windsurfing venues. Sport and entertainment in the village centres on the Country Club, with its golf course, bowling greens and tennis facilities.

Just south of the village is where the Dutch East Indies ship, the Verguilde Draeck, or Gilt Dragon, went down after striking reefs in 1646. Some 70 mariners were marooned ashore, never to be rescued.
